degree wheel的用法详解
Degree wheels are an essential tool in the performance world. They are designed to help you keep track of the relative position of the cam shaft and crankshaft in relation to one another.
Basically, a degree wheel is a disc marked with the degrees of crankshaft rotation. A zero degree mark is typically established and relative crankshaft rotation is checked by comparing the zero mark on a degree wheel to the timing marks on the engine.
The degree wheel is typically attached to the crankshaft via the harmonic balancer bolt. Alternately, it can be held in place by a degree wheel holder that attaches to the engine head or block. Once in place, the degree wheel can be used to check cam timing, find and set top dead center (TDC), or measure the crankshaft’s rotational speed.
In order to check camshaft timing, the crankshaft must first be set in motion. First, the degree wheel should be aligned with the zero mark on the engine. Then, the camshaft’s timing must be checked with a degree wheel. The degree wheel should be slowly rotated until the camshaft’s timing marks align with the marks on the degree wheel.
Degree wheels are also used to find and set top dead center. By slowly rotating the crankshaft, the zero lift portion of the camshaft can be found. At this point, a degree wheel can be used to set TDC and the crankshaft can then be rotated 360 degrees.
Finally, degree wheels can be used to measure the crankshaft’s rotational speed. By counting the number of degrees the crankshaft rotates over a given period of time, the engine’s RPMs can be calculated.
