英语单词cumulative negation的用法讲解

英语单词cumulative negation指的是一种累加否定的语法结构，就是在一个句子中对一个名词及其分裂成的不同部分进行否定。例如：Neither his teachers nor his parents support him.

cumulative negation有两个特点：

1.累加否定句子不同部分均必须用否定词“not” 或者“neither…nor” 连接，否则就不能算作累加否定；

2.累加否定句子的最后结果表示了完全的否定，也就是“none”的意思。

累加否定句子中最常用的词汇有neither…nor…， nothing， scarcely，barely，hardly，nowhere，no…any，not a single，nobody，not even 等。

例句：

1.I can find nowhere to escape from this nightmare.

2.She has not a single colleague to turn to in times of need.

3.Not even the strongest man can resist the temptation of power.

4.She had scarcely enough money to pay her rent.

5.He can barely manage to pay his mortgage every month.
