Continental climate是指大陆性气候，它往往没有明显的四季分界，冬季温度较低，夏季温度较高。在大陆性气候中，局部的温差很大，日夜差异也很大，冬昼短夜长，夏昼长夜短，极端气候现象也比较严重。
大陆性气候可以根据湿度不同，分为湿润型大陆气候和干燥型大陆气候两种形式。湿润型大陆气候夏季温度较高，冬季雨量较多，几乎没有雪；而干燥型大陆气候的冬季温度较低，夏季雨量较少，而且经常有阴雨天气。
