complacent是由拉丁文complacere演变而来的，原意是“取悦、安慰”，后来引申为“满足、自满”。它有三种用法：
一、最常见的用法是指“自满、得意”，强调某人无动于衷、安于现状，没有自我革新的意识和决心。如：The government has grown complacent and is not responsive to the citizen's needs.（政府已变得自满，不能及时响应市民的需求。）
