Callus is usually found on the hands or feet of people. It is a thick, hard layer of skin that helps to protect the area beneath it from pressure and friction. People who work with their hands often get calluses as the skin on their hands gets used to the pressure they apply.
People also get calluses on their feet due to the constant pressure placed on them while walking. In some cases, calluses can cause discomfort and may require medical attention. For example, if a callus is so thick that it rubs against a person’s shoes, it can cause blisters and infection.
Calluses can also occur in other parts of the body, such as the elbows, knees, or palms. In some cases, calluses may look unsightly. To relieve the discomfort and reduce the size of the callus, people can soak the area in warm water and then use a pumice stone or emery board to gently exfoliate the area.
